ALUMINIUM AND BLUE LAB
Physical Description:
Before:
- (l)- blue, water-like quality
- (s)- Aluminium,thin silver-coloured foil. Easily malleable.
After:
- (l)- clear, water-like quality
- (s)- lumps of red substance at bottom of flask
- (s) left over foil

Chemical Symbols/Equation:
Before:
2Al +3CuCl2
After:
3Cu +2AlCl2
Total:
2Al +3CuCl2 ----> 3Cu +2AlCl2
Description:
In this lab we added aluminium foil to a unknown blue substance, which was later revealed to be copper chloride. We did not make any measurements, but did experiments to reveal the elements present in the reaction before and after. With our knowledge of these elements and the bonds they make, we were able to create a balanced equation. We then used this equation to make a accurate particle diagram to demonstrate the bonds between atoms and show the changes in bonds before and after the reaction.
