Total:

2Mg2 + O2 ------> 2Mg20

Description:

 In this lab, we burned magnesium in a crucible to add oxygen to the magnesium and create magnesium oxide. We made measurements that demonstrated the increase in mass of the substance following the burning. Using the measurements, we were able to convert them into moles, then create a ratio of the magnesium to the oxygen. This information informed us of the molecules shape and the bonds between atoms following the reaction. We also used the mole measurements to find the equation, balancing it with our knowledge of the atoms present and the bonds they make. With this information, we made a particle diagram that shows the bonds before and after and the changes that occurred between atoms.
